resides in Kāśī. That rascal joyfully cuts Me into pieces.
He teaches Vedānta but does not accept My form. I made
him get leprosy, but even thus he does not understand.
Unlimited universes rest within My body, so how dare
that rascal call it false? O Murāri, I am telling you the truth
because you are My servant. One who does not accept My
form is doomed. My pastimes and activities are real and
My abode is real. One who says that they are false cuts
Me into pieces. By hearing My glories, all ignorance is
destroyed. Yet sinful teachers say that My pastimes are
false. O Murāri, one who disregards My auspicious glories
       can never understand My incarnation.”

Prakāśānanda was then a leader of the eka-daṇḍi-
sannyāsīs of the Śaṅkara-sampradāya in Kāśī, while
Prabodhānanda had come from Mysore to live in
Śrīraṅgam and was a tri-daṇḍi-jīyāra-svāmī follower of
Rāmānujācārya. Prakāśānanda was a māyāvādī resident
of Kāśī, and Prabodhānanda was a Vaiṣṇava who went to
live in Kāmyavana. One lived in Āryavarta (North India),
and the other was a South Indian Vaiṣṇava; one was an
impersonalist, and the other was a personalist follower
of viśiṣṭādvaita, and later of acintya-bhedābheda; one was
opposed to Lord Viṣṇu and the Vaiṣṇavas who attained
redemption, and he later became a devotee, while the
other was a nitya-siddha associate of Lord Gaurāṅga and
was the guru of Śrīla Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī. To deny that
the worshipable uncle and guru of Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī
was the best amongst eternally liberated devotees, and
to insult and condemn him as a conditioned soul and
