the service of Lord Nārāyaṇa’s deity. On the other hand,
Prakāśānanda was then a leading follower of the māyāvāda
school established by Śaṅkara. To attempt to make these
two individuals a single one is simply madness.
In connection with Prakāśānanda, the Caitanya-bhāgavata
(Madhya, 20.32-36,40-41,44) describes the following:
balite prabhura haila īśvara āveśa
danta kaḍamaḍa kari’ balaye viśeṣa
“sannyāsī prakāśānanda vasaye kāśīte
more khaṇḍa khaṇḍa beṭā kare bhāla mate
paḍāya vedānta, mora vigraha nā māne
kuṣṭha karāiluṁ aṅge tabu nāhi jāne
ananta brahmāṇḍa mora ye aṅgete vaise
tāhā mithyā bale beṭā kemana sāhase?
satya kahoṁ, murāri, āmāra tumi dāsa
ye nā māne mora aṅga, sei yāya nāśa
satya mora līlā-karma, satya mora sthāna
ihā mithyā bale, more kare khāna khāna
ye yaśaḥ-śravaṇe āji avidyā-vināśa
pāpī adhyāpake bale ‘mithyā se vilāsa’
hena puṇya-kīrti-prati anādara yāra
se kabhu nā jāne gupta mora avatāra
“Speaking thus, the Lord assumed the mood of the
Supreme Controller. Grinding His teeth, He spoke
