          Lélä—the transcendental activities of Bhagavän or His liberated
          devotees.

          Lord Caitanya—See Caitanya Mahäprabhu.

          Mädhurya-bhäva—the devotional sentiment of love between
          males and females. See Bhäva.

          Mahäjana—“venerable person”; a respectful title or mode of
          address.

          Mahä-mantra—See Hare Kåñëa mahä-mantra.

          Mahänta—(1) the head of a temple; (2) a respectful term for a
          Vaiñëava guru.

          Mahäräja—“great king”; a title and term of address for a king.

          Mahäçaya—“venerable person”; a respectful title or mode of
          address.

          Mahotsava—festival.

          Maëòala—(1) area; (2) surrounding district or territory.

          Maìgala-ärati—the first ärati of the day, performed before dawn.

          Mathurä—the sacred town where Lord Kåñëa first appeared,
          and later returned to after performing childhood pastimes in
          Våëdävana. Today, the extrinsic manifestation of Mathurä is the
          large town and surrounding district of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

          Mäyä—illusion; forgetfulness of one’s eternal relationship as
          servant of Kåñëa.

          Mémäàsä—generally refers to  Pürva-mémäàsä,  one of the six
