          desires; präkämya, the ability to experience any enjoyable object,
          either in this world or the next; éçitä, the ability to manipulate the
          material energy; vaçitä, the ability to subdue others to one’s will;
          and kämävasäyitä, the ability to subdue desire.

          Çiva—the demigod in charge of the mode of ignorance and the
          destruction of the material manifestation. He is also the protector
          of Våndävana-dhäma  and the best of Vaiñëavas (vaiñëavänäà
          yathä çambhuù—Çrémad-Bhägavatam 12.13.16).

          Çloka—a Sanskrit verse.

          Småti—Vedic texts subsequent to çruti (q.v.).

          Çré—“opulence” or “possessed of opulence”; (1) an epithet for
          Rädhäräëé and Lakñmé; (2) a term (usually prepositive) denoting
          respect for a person or a sacred book, place, or other object.

          Çréla—an honorific prefix to names of exalted devotees.

          Çrémad-Bhägavatam—the topmost Puräëa, presenting confidential
          and definitive understanding of Lord Kåñëa, His devotees, and
          pure devotional service to Him.

          Çrépäöa—the  place of the appearance or residence of a great
          Vaiñëava.

          Çruti—“that which has been heard”; the Veda, sacred knowledge
          in the form of eternal sounds or words that from long ancient times
          have been heard (or received via meditation) and subsequently
          transmitted orally from one generation of brähmaëas to the next.
          Çruti is considered the original and thus most authoritative section
          of Vedic scripture, having precedence over småti. See also Småti.
