Çüdra—(1) a laborer or artisan; (2) the fourth occupational
division (varëa) of the Vedic social system.
Surrender—(in Vaiñëava parlance) full submission of oneself as a
servant of guru and Kåñëa.
Sütra—an aphorism, especially one considered to be definitive or
an irreducible rule.
Çyämänandé—(1) a discipular follower of Çyämänanda Prabhu;
(2) the sect within the Gauòéya sampradäya comprising such
followers.
Tantra—a genre of texts that describe esoteric practices of various
sects and include discussion of theology, rituals, yoga, construction
of temples and images, and related subjects.
Tarka—(also known as Nyäya or logic) one of the six classical
schools of Indian philosophy.
Öhäkura—a title denoting a revered male person.
Öhäkuräëé—a title denoting a revered female person, especially a
mother-in-law or wife of a one’s guru.
Tilaka—auspicious clay-markings on the upper part of the body,
principally the forehead. The design varies according to, and thus
indicates, one’s sampradäya.
Tértha—a holy place.
Tulasé—(1) the sacred plant most dear to Lord Kåñëa and thus
worshiped by the Lord’s devotees; (2) (in her original form) a gopé
of Våndävana. Both neckbeads (kaëöhi-mälä) and chanting beads
(japa-mälä) made from tulasé wood are necessary paraphernalia
for Gauòéyas.
