                Story Eighteen: Dharmabuddhi and Pāpabuddhi
          Dharmabuddhi  [whose intelligence is pious]—one of the two
          enterprising friends.
          Pāpabuddhi [whose intelligence is impious]—another of the two
          friends.

            Story Twenty: The Iron Scale and the Son of a Merchant
         Jīrṇadhana [one whose wealth has dwindled]—a merchant.
          Dhanadeva [the lord of wealth]—the son of Jīrṇadhana’s friend.

             Story Twenty-Two: The Thief and the Four Brāhmaṇas
          Śukla [light]—a brāhmaṇa who became a thief.


                                 Second Tantra

           Story One: The Crow, the Mouse, the Turtle and the Deer
          Laghupatanaka [one who lands easily]—a crow.
          Citragrīva [one with beautiful neck feathers]—a king of the doves.
          Hiraṇyaka [one who is after gold]—a mouse.
          Mantharaka [who crawls slowly]—a turtle.
          Citrāṅga [the beautifully spotted one]—a deer.
                     Story Two: The Scorpion and the Frog
          Śraddhālu* [the trusting one]—a frog.
          Durbhāgya* [misfortune]—a scorpion.

                    Story Three: The Sādhu and the Mouse

         Tāmracūḍa [one with a top-knot of coppery hair]—a sādhu.
          Svāmī Bṛhatsphiṅga [one with large buttocks]—a sannyāsī.
               Story Four: Mother Śāṇḍilī and Her Sesame Seeds
          Śāṇḍilī—a wife of a certain brāhmaṇa.
