Glossary

           Līlā—pastime(s) of the Supreme Lord and His associates.
           Loi Bazaar—the main market in the town of Vṛndāvana.

           M
           Madhya Pradesh—a state in central India.
           Magadha—the ancient Sanskrit name for the territory of the present
           state of Bihar, in northeastern India.
           Mahābhārata—the longest epic in the world, describing the history,
           religion and culture of ancient India in one hundred thousand Sanskrit
           verses.

           Mahājana—(1) a title for twelve exceptional devotees who are
           considered authorities in devotional service to the Supreme Lord; (2)
           a great soul or an exalted devotee.
           Mahārāja—title for a king, ruler or sannyāsī.
           Mahā-mantra—Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/
           Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.
           Mahā-samādhi—a great soul’s departure from this world.
           Mākhana-cora—Lord Kṛṣṇa as the child butter thief.
           Malaya Mountains—the southern portion of the Western Ghats, on
           the West coast of India.
           Mandir—temple.
           Mantra—(1)  a pure sound vibration; (2) a  Vedic incantation that
           frees the mind from material attachments and illusion.
           Manu—the father of mankind and author of the Manu-saṁhitā, the
           most ancient dharma-śāstra.
           Manu-saṁhitā, Manu-smṛti—the most important among the twenty
           different dharma-śāstras (the body of ancient Vedic laws and codes
           of social and religious conduct).
           Manuṣya-gaṇa—persons with human traits as ascertained by their
           horoscope.
           Martyaloka—“the world of the mortals,” the earthly plane.
