Glossary

           Karma-phala—(lit. “the fruit of activity”) destiny.
           Karma-yoga—the lowest of the three processes of spiritual
           upliftment; ritualistic activities recommended in the  Vedas  to be
           performed without a sense of proprietorship or expectation of reward.
           Karṇa—one of the celebrated  kṣatriya  warriors of the epic
           Mahābhārata, the son of Sūrya (the sun god) and Queen Kuntī. He
           was forced to side with Duryodhana against his own brothers, the
           Pāṇḍavas.
           Kāśī—another name for Vārāṇasī (Banaras), an ancient holy city in
           northern India.
           Kaśyapa Muni—one of the great ancient sages and progenitor of the
           races of demigods and demons through his thirteen wives.
           Kauśalyā, Queen—the wife of King Daśaratha and mother of Lord
           Rāma.
           Khālsā—the Sikh community.
           Krishnadeva Raya, King—the emperor of the Vijayanagara empire
           in South India in the beginning of the sixteenth century.
           Kṛṣṇa, Lord—the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His original,
           most attractive form.
           Kṛṣṇa consciousness—the path of linking oneself with Lord Kṛṣṇa
           through devotional service to Him, and subsequent saturation of one’s
           consciousness with His name, form, qualities and pastimes.
           Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī—the author of  Śrī Caitanya-
           caritāmṛta, the biography of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu.
           Kṛṣṇa-kathā—narrations of Lord Kṛṣṇa’s teachings or pastimes.
           Kṛṣṇa-prasāda—remnants of food that has been ritually offered to
           the Deity of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
           Kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtana—the practice of congregational chanting of the
           holy names of Lord Kṛṣṇa.
           Kṣatriya—(a member of the second occupational division in Vedic
           society) a ruler, administrator or soldier.
           Kulaśekhara, King—a South Indian king and one of the Alvars
