Glossary

          Durvāsā Muni—a powerful yogī and mystic who is often mentioned
          in the Purāṇas and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.
          Duryodhana—the evil-minded eldest son of King Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
          Dvādaśī (tithi)—the twelfth day of both the waxing and the waning
          phase of the moon.
          Dvija—(lit. “twice-born”) another Sanskrit term for a  brāhmaṇa.
          “Second birth” refers to initiation into chanting of sacred  Vedic
          mantras.

          Ekādaśī (tithi)—the eleventh day of both the waxing and the waning
          phase of the moon, a particularly holy fast-day for Vaiṣṇavas.

          Gāndhārī—a celebrated princess from Gandhāra (present-day
          Afghanistan) who, upon learning that she had been betrothed to the
          blind King Dhṛtarāṣṭra, blindfolded herself for her entire life so as to
          never feel superior to her husband.
          Gaṅgā—the river Ganges.
          Gauḍīya Maṭha—the religious institution founded by  Śrīla
          Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura, consisting of numerous maṭhas
          (temples cum ashrams) all throughout India that were dedicated to the
          spreading of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
          Gauḍīya sampradāya—the disciplic succession of Gauḍīya
          Vaiṣṇavas.
          Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava—a follower of the teachings of  Śrī Caitanya
          Mahāprabhu and His associates.
          Gaurakiśora Dāsa Bābājī—the spiritual master of  Śrīla
          Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura.
          Gautama Ṛṣi—an ancient sage and the husband of Ahalyā.
          Gayā—a sacred city in Bihar that has been celebrated since ancient
