Śikhā — tuft of hair kept on the back of the head by
Vaiṣṇavas and adherents of some other sects within
Vedic society.
Smārta — adherent of karma-kāṇḍīya regulations.
Smārta-brāhmaṇa — hereditary priest of karma-kāṇḍīya
rituals, and generally a worshiper of Lord Śiva.
Śrāddha — a rite meant to benefit departed forefathers.
Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam — the most important literature
of the Vaiṣṇavas, composed in 18,000 Sanskrit verses.
Śrī Raṅgam — the main center of the Śrī Vaiṣṇava
sampradāya.
Śūdra — (1) laborer or artisan; (2) the fourth occupational
division of the Vedic social system. See also Varṇa;
Varṇāśrama-dharma.
Telugu — the language of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Tilaka — symbolic marks designating religious affiliation
of a Vaiṣṇava or other Hindu sect.
Tirupati — the most popular place of pilgrimage in India,
situated in Andhra Pradesh, near the state border with
Tamil Nadu.
Tulasī — a sacred plant worshiped as a great devotee of
Kṛṣṇa.
Ulu-ulu — auspicious sound made by women.
Upmā — savory preparation made from farina.
