       Mahābhārata — epic compiled 5,000 years ago describing
          the history of greater India. It includes many teachings
          on morality and spiritual knowledge.

       Mahā-mantra — the most important of the innumerable
          mantras in the Vedic literatures is the Hare Kṛṣṇa
          mantra; thus it is known as the mahā-mantra. (Mahā
          — great.)
       Mārgali — Tamil month corresponding to December-
          January.

       Māyā  —  the  state  of  being  in  illusion,  i.e.  without
          knowledge of Kṛṣṇa.
       Māyāvāda  —  the  philosophy  which  holds  that  the
          Absolute Truth is an undifferentiated entity, and that
          any perception of difference or form is ultimately
          illusory.
       Mleccha — Meat-eater; a person not following Vedic
          principles; a person considered low class, unclean,
          and uncivilized.
       Mokṣa — liberation from material existence.

       Mṛdaṅga, Mṛdaṅgam — certain type of two-headed
          drum.
       Namaskāra(m) — a respectful greeting.

       Nārāyaṇa — another form of Kṛṣṇa.
       Oriya — (1) of or pertaining to Orissa; (2) the language
          or people of Orissa.
       Pan — (1) a betel leaf; (2) a masticatory of betel nut, lime,
