(Śrī) Caitanya-bhāgavata, (Śrī) Caitanya-caritāmṛta —
the two principal biographies of Śrī Caitanya
Mahāprabhu.
(Śrī) Caitanya Mahāprabhu — (1486–1534) the Supreme
Lord who appeared as His own devotee to teach love
of Himself, especially by the process of congregational
chanting of His holy names. Also known as Lord
Caitanya.
Caturmāsya — the four month period of the rainy season.
Chaddar — shawl; piece of cloth worn on the upper body.
Dāl — dahl.
Darśana — “seeing;” audience given by Deities or
spiritually advanced persons.
Dīpāvalī — festival of lights, on the evening of which
buildings are covered with small lamps.
Ekādaśī — eleventh day of the lunar month, on which
at least partial fasting is observed by devotees. (Most
Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇavas fast at least from grains and beans.)
Gāmcha — light bathing wrapper. Bengali gāmchas are
usually bright and multi-colored.
Gaṇeśa — a demigod with an elephant head, whose
worship is especially popular in Maharashtra.
Garuḍa — the eagle carrier of Lord Viṣṇu.
Gaura-Nitāi — Gaura is another name for Caitanya
Mahāprabhu and Nitāi is another name for His divine
brother Nityānanda Prabhu.
