8 Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu
asked the brähmaëa to ready yet another meal. It
was midnight and all were asleep when the pilgrim
began to offer the food, but somehow baby Nimäi
again arrived and ate it.
The brähmaëa was in tears. “Lord Viñëu does
not want me to eat today,” he thought. “I must have
committed some offense.” Then Nimäi said, “Don’t
you know that I am the same Lord Viñëu for whom
you are daily preparing offerings?” He displayed
His four-armed Viñëu form to the brähmaëa, who
swooned in divine joy upon understanding that
the child teasing him was none other than the
Lord of his life.
Two brähmaëa devotees, Hiraëya and Jagadéça,
lived in a distant neighborhood of Navadvépa.
Once on Ekädaçi they offered an elaborate püjä
to Lord Viñëu and prepared many delectable
eatables for His pleasure. Somehow little Nimäi
knew of this, and having walked from His home
He demanded those palatable items. Hiraëya and
Jagadéça were surprised at how the child could have
known about this special offering, yet they happily
gave Him the food.
Often at midday, when local brähmaëas would
stand in the Gaìgä to recite prayers and chant
Gäyatré, mischievous Nimäi would splash them,
