situation. In answer to Advaita Äcärya’s entreaties
Lord Kåñëa entered the womb of Çacédevé, whose
pregnancy endured for thirteen months. During
this time Jagannätha Miçra would sometimes see
divine beings in his home, yet he was unaware
that they were demigods coming to pray to Lord
Caitanya.
The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Çré
Caitanya Mahäprabhu, appeared in Mäyäpur on
the full-moon night of the month of Phälguna
in the year 1407 Çakäbda (18 February 1486 AD).
Previously Çacémätä had given birth to eight
daughters, all of whom died immediately after
birth. Thereafter she gave birth to a son, who
survived and was named Viçvarüpa. Viçvambhara
was to be her last child.
Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu appeared during
an eclipse of the full moon. As per tradition, the
Hindu residents of Navadvépa stood within the
Gaìgä during the eclipse and chanted the divine
names of Hari. Hearing them chant “Hari! Hari!”
many Muslims mockingly imitated them. Thus,
while the whole of Navadvépa was vibrating the
name of Çré Hari, Gaurahari manifested Himself.
