(Çréla) Sanätana Gosvämé—(1488–1558) one of the Six Gosvämés. He was
entrusted by Lord Caitanya to delineate the principles of vaidhé bhakti,
the relationship between vaidhé bhakti and rägänuga-bhakti, and the subtle
truths for ascertaining the differences between manifest and unmanifest
Gokula.
Sanätana-çikñä—Lord Caitanya’s systematic instruction to Çréla Sanätana
Gosvämé (detailed in Cc 2.20–24).
Saìga—association (with persons, objects, or conceptions).
Saìgha—a formal association, establishment, or institution.
Çaìkara, Çaìkaräcärya—(686–718) an avatar of Lord Çiva who established
Mäyäväda in the modern age. See also Ädi-Çaìkaräcärya.
Saìkértana—congregational chanting of the Supreme Lord’s holy names. See
also Kértana; Nagara-saìkértana.
Sannyäsa—celibate renounced life, the fourth äçrama of the Vedic social system.

Çänta-rasa—the mellow of neutral admiration. See also Rasa.
Säragrähé—“one who appreciates merit or worth”; one who enters into the spirit
of something; one who accepts the essence of reality. (Sära—essence;
grähé—one who accepts)
Çaraëägati—(1) “approach for protection,” the path of surrender to the Lord; (2)
a collection of songs by Çréla Bhaktivinoda Öhäkura outlining that path.
Särasvata—in relation to Sarasvaté.
Sarasvaté—(1) (a) the goddess of learning; (b) the same goddess in the form of
a river (several rivers bear this name, including one that flows through
Mäyäpur, where she is popularly known as Jaläìgé; (2) a title for a scholar,
indicating that he has received the grace of Goddess Sarasvaté.
Sarovara—lake.
Särvabhauma Bhaööäcärya—a contemporaneous associate of Lord Caitanya.
Çästra—(1) revealed scripture; (2) the four Vedas and literature in pursuance of
the Vedic version.
Çästré—(1) a scholar, particularly of Vedic knowledge; paëòita (q.v.) (2) a title,
generally affixed to the end of a name, for an accomplished scholar; (3) a
brähmaëa surname.
Çästric (anglicization)—scriptural.
Çästréya—scriptural.
