Rävaëa—the räkñasa king who was the chief foe of Lord Rämacandra and
ultimately was killed by Him.
Åñi—(1) a sage; (2) (original meaning) a sage with transcendental ability to
perceive and transmit nonextant Vedic mantras.
(Çréla) Rüpa Gosvämé—(1489–1564) the foremost of the Six Gosvämés, and
known as the rasäcärya.
Rüpänuga—a discipular follower of Çréla Rüpa Gosvämé.
Rüpa-Raghunätha—Rüpa Gosvämé and Raghunätha däsa Gosvämé. As the two
among the Six Gosvämés whose writings particularly reveal the topmost
rasa that is the essence of and worshipable goal in Gauòéya Vaiñëava
dharma, their names are often clubbed together to indicate that essence
and goal.
Sabhä—assembly, council.
Saccidänanda—(lowercase) “possessed of eternity (sat), knowledge (cit), and bliss
(änanda)”; attributes of the Supreme Lord and liberated devotees; (capital)
(1) a name of Lord Viñëu, (2) a name of Çréla Bhaktivinoda Öhäkura.
Çacédevé, Çacémätä—the mother of Lord Caitanya.
Çacénandana—a name of Lord Caitanya meaning “the son of Çacé.”
Sadäcära—adherence to scriptural rules governing proper behavior. See also
Äcära.
Sädhaka—a practitioner of sädhana.
Sädhana—(1) means for attaining a spiritual or religious goal; (2) regulated
spiritual practice.
Sädhana-bhakti—(1) devotional service executed by practicing a regulative
process meant to invoke one’s dormant Kåñëa consciousness; (2) vaidhé
bhakti (q.v.).
Sadhu—(Sanskrit: sädhu) (1) a saintly person, especially a renunciant; (2) a
devotee of Kåñëa, especially a renunciant or pure devotee; (3) a Hindu
holy man.
Sädhu-çästra-guru—(from Prema-bhakti-candrikä) the threefold authoritative
source of knowledge. The word sädhu used herein refers principally to
recognized previous äcäryas and to present advanced devotees.
Sädhya—the goal, or desired attainment, of a particular sädhana.
Sägara—ocean.
Sahajiyä—See Präkåta-sahajiyä.
