           Harinäma-saìkértana—See Saìkértana.
           Harmonist—the English magazine of the Gauòéya Maöha at the time of Çréla
                 Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvaté.
           Himäcala—another name for the Himälayas.
           Hiraëyakaçipu—the ancient despot infamous for persecuting his five-year-old
                 son, Prahläda, because of Prahläda’s Kåñëa-bhakti.
           Impersonalism—See Mäyäväda.
           Initiation—See Dékñä.
           ISKCON—International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Founded in 1966 in
                 New York by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupäda,
                 it is the principal manifestation of what is popularly known as the Hare
                 Krishna movement.
           Iñöa-goñöhé—discussion of spiritual topics among devotees of similar ideals.
           Éçvara—“controller”; in general Hindu usage, often denotes Lord Çiva as the
                 controller of the material energy; particularly in Vaiñëava parlance, refers
                 to the Supreme Lord, Hari.
           (Çréla) Éçvara Puré—a disciple of Çréla Mädhavendra Puré (q.v.), and the initiating
                 guru of Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu.

           Jaòa—inanimate, material, foolish.
           Jagad-darçana—material outlook.
           Jagad-guru—“the preceptor of the universe”; one whose instructions may be
                 beneficially followed by everyone within the universe.
           Jagäi and Mädhäi—the criminal brothers who were reformed by the intervention
                 of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityänanda (narrated in  Çré Caitanya-
                 bhägavata).
           Jagannätha—a name of Kåñëa meaning “Lord of the universe.” It particularly
                 refers to a specific deity form of Kåñëa, whose large temple and elaborate
                 worship therein at Puré, Orissa, is especially famous.
           (Çréla) Jagannätha däsa Bäbäjé—(nineteenth century) a great Gauòéya äcärya
                 who was instrumental in locating the apperance site of Çré Caitanya
                 Mahäprabhu.
           Jagannätha Miçra—the father of Lord Caitanya.

           Jagannätha-vallabha Udyäna—a garden in Puré.
           Jagat—“universe.” Unless otherwise specified, it generally refers to the material
                 world.
