           (Çréla) Gopäla Bhaööa Gosvämé—one of the Six Gosvämés. He is known as the
                 småty-äcärya of the Gauòéya sampradäya for compiling Hari-bhakti-viläsa
                 and  Sat-kriyä-sära-dépikä  (books of rituals and ceremonies for Gauòéya
                 Vaiñëavas).
           Gopé—a female cowherd, particularly one of the spiritual cowherd damsels who
                 serve Kåñëa in Goloka or Gokula.

           Gopéjanavallabha, Gopévallabha—names of Kåñëa meaning “lover of the gopés.”
           Gopéçvara—an epithet of Lord Çiva, and particularly a form that is worshiped in
                 a specific temple in Mahävana, Vraja-maëòala. The name means that he
                 is the form of Lord Çiva (éçvara) as worshiped by the gopés.
           Gopévallabhpur—the seat of the Çyämänandé sect (q.v.)
           Gosvämé—(1) one who fully controls his senses; (2) title designating a sannyasi;
                 (3) adjective denoting the Six Gosvämés.
           Gosvämé literature—that written by the Six Gosvämés. It may also indicate works
                 of other major Gauòéya äcäryas, especially Çréla Viçvanätha Cakravarté
                 Öhäkura and those preceding him.
           Goswami—a surname of families often claiming spiritual privilege on the basis
                 of birth. See also Caste Goswamis.
           Govardhana—(1) the especially sacred hill within Vraja-maëòala that is
                 nondifferent from Kåñëa; (2) the village adjacent to Govardhana Hill.

           Govardhana-çilä, Giridhäré-çilä—any stone from Govardhana Hill. Many
                 Gauòéya Vaiñëavas worship such çiläs.
           Govinda—a name of Kåñëa meaning “He who gives pleasure to the land, the
                 cows, and the senses.”
           Govinda-bhäñya—the gloss on Vedänta-sütra compiled by the Gauòéya Vaiñëava
                 äcärya Çréla Baladeva Vidyäbhüñaëa Prabhu.
           Govinda-lélämåta—the seminal work by Çréla Kåñëadäsa Kaviräja Gosvämé that
                 details Çré Rädhä-Kåñëa’s añöa-käléya-lélä. See also Añöa-käléya-lélä.
           Grantha—book.
           Gåhastha—(1) a married person acting in accordance with Vedic religious
                 principles for the purpose of spiritual elevation; (2) the second äçrama of
                 Vedic spiritual life. See also Varëäçrama-dharma.
           Guëa—(1) attribute, quality; (2) one of the three cosmic behavorial
                 influences—i) goodness (sattva), ii) passion (rajas), and iii) ignorance
                 (tamas)—characterized respectively by i) detachment, serenity, and
                 spiritual inclination; ii) attachment and inordinate endeavor for sense
