The Vedas Reveal the Absolute Truth 3

“The Åg Veda, Yajur Veda, Säma Veda, and Atharva Veda, the Itihäsas
(histories), the Puräëas, the Upaniñads, the çlokas or mantras
chanted by brähmaëas, the sütras (condensed Vedic statements), as
well as vidyä (transcendental knowledge) and the explanations of
the sütras and mantras are all emanations from the breathing of the
             great Personality of Godhead.”
Therefore, our discussion of “Who is Supreme?” will be based on
Vedic authority and not the opinions of ordinary men, whose
knowledge is always imperfect due to four inherent defects of
all humans: imperfect senses, certainty of committing mistakes,
tendency to become illusioned, and the propensity to cheat.

At the beginning of creation, the Supreme Lord (Kåñëa) imparted
Vedic knowledge unto the heart of Brahmä, the first created living
being. Brahmä then presented that knowledge to his sons and
disciples, who in turn gave it to their disciples, and so on. In that
way, Vedic knowledge has been handed down through all time via
the chain of disciplic succession. So one should try to understand
the Vedas by hearing from a bona fide spiritual master within the
line of disciplic succession commencing from the Lord Himself:
                     evaà paramparä-präptam imaà räjarñayo viduù

“This supreme science was thus received through the chain of
disciplic succession, and the saintly kings understood it in that
             way.” (Gétä 4.2)
Indeed, spiritual discussions should be based on evidence given
by gurus (bona fide spiritual masters), sädhus (saints and previous
äcäryas), and the çästras, because statements from these sources
           combinedly reveal the ultimate truth:
                       sädhu-çästra-guru-väkya, cittete kariyä aikya
“One should make the words from the sädhus, the çästra, and the
guru one with his heart.” (Narottama däsa Öhäkura, a Vaiñëava
             äcärya)
