           Vaiñëava—(1) a devotee of Viñëu (Kåñëa), especially a pure, fully perfect devotee;
                 (2) of or pertaining to a Vaiñëava or to Vaiñëava dharma.

           Vaiñëava-aparädha—offense against a Vaiñëava. See also Aparädha.
           Vaiñëava dharma, Vaiñëavism—the cult of worship of Viñëu.
           Vaiñëavé—a female Vaiñëava.
           Vaiçya—(1) an agriculturist or merchant; (2) the third occupational division of
                 the Vedic social system. See also Varëa; Varëäçrama-dharma.
           Vallabha—“lover,” “husband”; (1) a name of Kåñëa; (2) (also known as
                 Vallabhäcärya) a contemporary of Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu and the
                 preceptor of a Vaiñëava sampradäya prominent in western India; (3) the
                 name of the aforesaid sampradäya.
           Vaàça—dynasty.
           Vana(m)—forest.
           Vänaprastha—(1) a celibate retiree from family life; (2) the third äçrama of the
                 Vedic social system. See also Varëäçrama-dharma.
           Väëé—words, instructions, message.
           Vapu—body, form.

           Varëa—any of the four occupational divisions in the Vedic social system:
                 brähmaëa, kñatriya, vaiçya, and çüdra. See also Varëäçrama-dharma.
           Varëäçrama-dharma—the Vedic social system of four occupational divisions and
                 four spiritual orders. See also Äçrama; Dharma; Varëa.
           Värñabhänavé—a name for Rädhäräëé meaning “the daughter of Mahäräja
                 Våñabhänu.”
           Väsa—residence; the state of residing in.
           Väsé—resident.
           Vätsalya-rasa—“mellow of parental affection.” See also Rasa.

           Vedänta—“conclusion of Vedic knowledge”; (1) the Upaniñads; (2) the Vedänta-
                 sütra or philosophy thereof.
           Vedänta-sütra—Çréla Vyäsadeva’s aphoristic compendium of the essence of
                 Vedic knowledge.
           Vicära—analysis, consideration, judgment.
           Viddha—(Çréla Bhaktisiddhänta Sarasvaté’s usage) contaminated.

           Vidhi—scripturally ordained regulations.
