Introduction
The past century has seen the Western countries, particularly
America and Britain, rise to great prominence. Today, most
countries look up to the Western world in awe and are eager
to try and adopt its value system and lifestyle. It is no surprise
then that the prevalent mood in the Western countries is rapidly
reflected in other places. One of the most prominent issues has
been that of women’s role in society. The feminist movement
has changed the face of the Western society dramatically since
the late nineteenth century, and has gradually been sweeping
through the rest of the world as well. However, many of the
ideals of modern Western life are in sharp contrast with the
culture and traditions that have been extant for centuries. In
the eagerness to jump onto the bandwagon and embrace the
