PREFACE xxv

since he is considered to be an authority on Vedic culture,
not only due to his extensive study of the Vedic scriptures
and strict adherence to the Vedic tenets throughout his life,
but also due to his deep realizations on the subject matter.
Subsequently, I examine the consequences of not following
traditional culture in terms of its impact on the well-being
of women. For this, I sample the Western countries since the
last century has witnessed Western society’s rejection of the
traditional role for women. I also felt it was important to
scrutinize this culture in particular, for at present the Western
countries are the perceived leaders in setting trends for the rest
of the world to follow. I present some views of contemporary
thinkers in these countries in the course of my analysis.

Today, we women are indeed in a unique position of holding
the power to make our own life choices. We are encouraged
to think for ourselves and draw our own conclusions. I hope
the ideas presented in this book will help us make better-
informed decisions on how we wish to shape our lives and
the lives of those around us.
