a concurrent shift in happiness towards women and away
from men. Yet we document in this paper that measures of
women’s subjective well-being have fallen both absolutely

In the interest of women’s happiness, therefore, it may prove
beneficial to let our guard down and retrace our steps to try
and figure out what went wrong. Are traditional values so
harmful to a woman’s general well-being that they must be
completely eradicated? The past few decades have attempted to
do just that and so far the results have not been encouraging.
This book intends to examine aspects of Vedic culture,
particularly related to women, and discuss their relevance
in today’s world. It is an attempt to bring back into focus the
glories of a culture that has God in its center and is based on
ideals of a harmonious society where everyone is satisfied due
to being situated in a position appropriate to their nature.
