My Memories of Çréla Prabhupäda

devotees laughed and cheered “Jaya Çréla Prabhupäda!” Çréla
Prabhupäda then indicated to Änakadundubhi Prabhu to come
inside, which he somehow or other did. Çréla Prabhupäda took
a piece of the fruit, and Änakadundubhi Prabhu stood ready to
distribute the remainder, which served as a cue for the devotees
to stand up, take a little prasäda, and leave.

Afterward, I thought about those words: “They will never
leave.” Although stated jokingly, it was true—deeply true. The
devotees were so intensely bound to Çréla Prabhupäda in love
that they could never leave him. Even if, being overwhelmed
by mäyä, they were to leave him temporarily, they could never
forget Çréla Prabhupäda’s lotus feet or his kindness upon them.
The festival then moved on to Våndävana, where Çréla
Prabhupäda continued lecturing on the Seventh Canto.
There I heard that Harikeça Mahäräja had noted that while
undertaking the translation of the section describing Prahläda
Mahäräja, Çréla Prabhupäda had become deeply absorbed in the
mood of Prahläda Mahäräja. Just like Prahläda Mahäräja, Çréla
Prabhupäda had exhibited extraordinary compassion toward
the fallen living beings, simply considering how to save them,
and being more concerned with serving his spiritual master
than enjoying the happiness of associating with Kåñëa.

A few days before, during a class in Mäyäpur, Çréla Prabhupäda
had explained that an affectionate mother feels her child’s pain
even more than does the child himself. Reflecting the mood
of Prahläda Mahäräja—about whom all of those Bhägavatam
verses under discussion had been written—Çréla Prabhupäda
felt great pain at the suffering of all conditioned souls.
Therefore he worked tirelessly on those translations, to help
save all living entities from repeated birth and death.
As in Mäyäpur, so also in Våndävana the temple room was
always packed during classes. Çréla Prabhupäda would sing “Jaya
