           Reading Guide for My Disciples
Prabhupada said that “All the devotees connected with this
Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement must read all the books
that have been translated (Caitanya-caritamrta, Srimad-
Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-gita and others); otherwise, after
some time, they will simply eat, sleep and fall down from
their position. Thus they will miss the opportunity to attain an
eternal, blissful life of transcendental pleasure.” (CC Madhya
           25.278)
Sometimes my disciples ask me about which books are suitable
for them to read, and sometimes I see my disciples reading
books which I think are not very suitable for them to read.

The most suitable books for all members of the Krsna
consciousness movement to read are Srila Prabhupada’s books.
As a general recommendation, it is best that devotees read all
of Srila Prabhupada’s books before they read other books.
Indeed, if they only read Srila Prabhupada’s books throughout
their lives again and again, that will be sufficient to fully
understand the philosophy of Krsna consciousness, apply it in
their lives, and preach to and convince others.

Nowadays there are many books being written by the disciples
and grand disciples of Srila Prabhupada. This is generally a
healthy trend and shows that devotees are intelligent, thoughtful
people. However, not all books circulating in our movement are
suitable to read, and some of them are not suitable for anyone
who wants to advance in spiritual life to read. In other words,
just because someone is initiated by Srila Prabhupada doesn’t
