Respect and Protection
Women have a special place in Vedic culture. They are cherished
and protected. It is believed that women, as the embodiment
of Lakṣmīdevī, the goddess of fortune, are instrumental in
bringing prosperity to the family.
Until recently, it was the case in cultures all over the world
that women were responsible for keeping house and raising
children. Generally, their contribution was considered
invaluable in society and they were held in high regard for
their selfless service attitude towards the family. Famous
sayings such as ‘the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world’
both acknowledge and convey respect for women’s priceless
contribution in raising responsible children, which in turn
helps build a stable society.
