4 Çré Vaàç édäsa Bäbäjé
Sarasvaté would sometimes visit Bäbäjé Mahäräja’s kuöé in
Navadvépa town, yet he would remain at some distance
and simply offer obeisance. Seeing Çréla Bhaktisiddhänta
Sarasvaté coming, Bäbäjé Mahäräja would exclaim, “Oh,
a maïjaré has come! So won’t Rädhä also come? She will
come! She will come!” 3
Jagadéça Bhakti Pradépa reported having accompanied
Siddhänta Sarasvaté to Koladvépa for the darçana of
Vaàç édäsa Bäbäjé shortly before Gaura-pürëimä in 1914.
4
Although when they arrived Bäbäjé Mahäräja had not
spoken to anyone for some time and was absorbed in
singing to his Deities from Prärthanä, on seeing Siddhänta
Sarasvaté he loudly cried “My Gaura’s own associate
has come!” Then Bäbäjé Mahäräja respectfully seated
Siddhänta Sarasvaté and resumed singing. After this
visit, Siddhänta Sarasvaté explained at length that Bäbäjé
Mahäräja was serving Kåñëa according to Narottama Däsa
Öhäkura’s mood, and that Bäbäjé Mahäräja’s apparent
improper behavior was meant to mislead materialistic
people—including putative Vaiñëavas—and hence was
incomprehensible to such persons.
3. Bäbäjé Mahäräja was referring to Siddhänta Sarasvaté as a
maïjaré. Some years later, certain senior disciples of Siddhänta
Sarasvaté ascertained him to be Nayana-maëi Maïjaré in Kåñëa-
lélä.
4. Jagadéça Bhakti Pradépa later became Çréla Bhaktisiddhänta
Sarasvaté’s first sannyäsa disciple, named Bhakti Pradépa Tértha
Mahäräja.
