Vaiñëava—devotee of Viñëu (Kåñëa).
Varëäçrama-dharma—Vedic social system of four
occupational divisions and four spiritual
orders.
Vedänta—(1) conclusion of Vedic knowledge;
(2) Vedänta-sütra or the philosophy thereof.
Viñëu—Supreme Lord, an expansion of Kåñëa.
Våndävana—(1) topmost transcendental abode of
the Supreme Lord Kåñëa; (2) the same abode
descended at the site of the present town
of Vrindavan, India, situated about ninety
miles southeast of Delhi, within which Kåñëa
enacted childhood pastimes five thousand
years ago.
Yamunä—sacred river that flows from the
Himälayas to Prayäga.
Yuga—one of a cycle of four ages that recur
throughout the duration of the universe. See
also Kali-yuga.
