the real intrinsic nature of a woman is not able to flourish
neither emotionally, in the family or even intellectually. I am
thoroughly convinced about Śrīla Prabhupāda’s and śāstra’s
statements that shyness and chastity is the real empowerment
of a woman. I can understand that the biggest part of our
challenge in our Kṛṣṇa conscious movement is that we must
be brave and take the step to live in a fully Kṛṣṇa conscious
community preferably on the farm. It surely will open up the
revival of the natural position of women primarily as mothers
where we will feel much more protected and able to fulfill our
natural propensities. For as Śrīla Prabhupāda stated; “So Kṛṣṇa
consciousness movement is means for thoroughly overhauling
the whole human society.” (Morning walk, September 25, 1975,
Ahmedabad). Quite a brave ambition which can lead to a
           bright future.

What is our nature, role and responsibility as women? How
can we be successful and happy? The book Women: Masters or
Mothers? gives us the answers. Bhakti Vikāsa Swami presents
Śrīla Prabhupāda’s teachings with respect to this topic in a
           condensed and clear way.

It is obvious that in today’s society there is a clear lack of values.
Men’s and women’s roles have become mixed, resulting in
chaos. As a member of the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement for 23 years,
and a mother of 4 children, I can see that this chaos in society
is influencing devotees, including me, too.

Lord Kṛṣṇa is the source of everything, and He also gave
us certain roles to be performed according to our gender.
According to śāstra we are required to perform our respective
roles properly, or at least in the best possible way. With many
