and said that his books were especially meant for the
intelligent class of men. The BBT Library Party was started
at Çréla Prabhupäda’s behest to distribute sets of his books
to university and college libraries. The Bhaktivedanta
Institute was established by Çréla Prabhupäda for
preaching to scientists, scholars, and intellectuals. And in
his commentary on the verse idaà hi puàsas tapasaù
çrutasya vä, Çréla Prabhupäda gave the idea as to how
mundane scholarship could be dovetailed into devotional
                  10
service. Çréla Prabhupäda wanted to capture the attention
of these intellectuals because great minds influence lesser
minds. If the intelligentsia were to accept Kåñëa
consciousness, others would follow—for ideas, not
          weapons, rule the world.

          Scholarship
Çréla Prabhupäda’s brilliance as a scholar is evident
from his books. While preparing his purports, Çréla
Prabhupäda studied the commentaries of the previous
äcäryas, in which intricate philosophical concepts are
expressed in complex Sanskrit and Bengali. By explaining
these points in simple, precise English, Çréla Prabhupäda
demonstrated complete comprehension of all the
subtleties contained therein. Ever mindful of his audience,
Prabhupäda kept his message straightforward and clear:

“Kåñëa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. You are
not that body, but the eternal servant of Kåñëa. Surrender
to Kåñëa. Chant Hare Kåñëa.” By focusing on the ultimate
subject of study—the Absolute Truth, Lord Çré Kåñëa—by
exhaustively presenting the science of the Absolute Truth,
