Satisfaction
That is Vedic civilization. They were not very much
anxious to improve their material position. Even now,
the innocent villagers are satisfied with the position Kṛṣṇa
has given them, but they are anxious to improve their
spiritual life. (Lecture, 15 October 1973)
This is the Indian attitude. They do not care for the
modern, civilized way of life, wasting time reading some
nonsense books or going to the bars, the cinema, talking
unnecessarily. Those who are old style, they do not like.

Devotee: Which way is India headed toward, the
capitalists or the communists?
Prabhupāda: India has had no such ideas. They are
borrowing ideas. India’s idea is self-realization. Live
a very simple life — brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, śūdra.
The brāhmaṇas, they are living simple lives, becoming
very learned scholars, pure in character, advanced in
spiritual life — one class, ideal. And kṣatriyas, they are
supposed to be the kings; they distribute the land on
nominal taxation. And the vaiśyas utilize the land for
cultivation and cow keeping. And the śūdras are engaged
as weavers, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, and supplying
other necessities of life. In this way the whole society
